Matthias Verginer

Bressanone, 1982

Matthias Verginer is a sculptor of extraordinary quality and astonishing imagination. His creations involve a wide range of materials, from wood to fabric, giving life to intricate and whimsical configurations. The artist's sculptures often symbolize introspection, inner reflection, and instinctive reactions. His works, capable of triggering a process of self-analysis, inspire a search for connection with emotions and thoughts and emphasize the importance of exploring one's inner self in order to achieve a proper awareness of the mechanisms that govern reality. In a constant balance between realistic representation and deeper meaning, his sculptures explore the joys, pains, and challenges of human existence.

Matthias Verginer was born in Bressanone (BZ) in 1982. Raised in Ortisei in the spectacular Val Gardena at the foot of the majestic Dolomites, he embarked on his artistic path after studying graphics at the Selva Val Gardena Art School, and then transitioning to sculpture. During his apprenticeship, Verginer collaborated with various sculptors and now shares a studio with his brother Christian and his father Willy, both esteemed contemporary sculptors. His work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Europe, the United States, Taiwan, and Canada. Furthermore, his sculptures are a constant presence in most important art fairs, including Art Karlsruhe and Context Art Miami. He lives and works in Ortisei (BZ).
