ANDREA MARICONTI
Lodi, 1978
His painting is more than tactile, it evoques images moulded by the relationships and contrasts between lights and shadows, resembling the languages related to sculpture. Andrea Mariconti creates pictorial matter, which satisfies both the need of representing and the wish of touching the canvas, almost penetrating it. His works constantly dialogue with remembrance, through the use of natural materials, such as ashes, wax, crude oil and humus. White is the only colour used. His recurring subjects are haystacks, woods and cliffs overlooking the sea.
Andrea Mariconti was born in Lodi in 1978. He graduated in 2001, major visual arts, at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and in Scenography in 2006. In 2005 he attended a workshop held by Anselm Kiefer, during the setting up of the installation Seven Heavenly Palaces at the Hangar Bicocca. From 2003 he regularly participates into solo and group exhibitions and is invited to the most important shows of contemporary art. In 2011 he won the UNESCO Prize for Contemporary Art. He lives and works between Cremona and Milan.
